John Bailey
John qualified as a Solicitor in 1971 and spent his entire working career as a lawyer in commerce and industry specialising in contract law and particularly the negotiation of international joint ventures. He served as company secretary of a telecommunications PLC and as a director of a number of its subsidiaries.
On retirement in 2006 he started volunteering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. He's been a regular signalman for 17 years, a role he also undertakes on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway. For around the same period he's been an NYMR Trustee and Director. He served as Chairman of the NYMR Trust Board for over eight years during which time the NYMR has undergone a major corporate re-structuring with substantial grant aided development. He's currently the HRA's Company Secretary and chairs its Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.
